Taiwanese supplier Wistron Corp and The Tata Group are discussing forming a joint venture to produce Apple’s iPhones in India. This new venture will ultimately produce five times more iPhones than Wistron currently produces in India. According to a Bloomberg report, after the launch of the iPhone 14 series, the Tata Group and Taiwanese supplier Wistron Corp are in talks to form a joint venture to manufacture Apple’s iPhones in India.

If this agreement goes well, then Tata Group and Wistron Corp will make iPhones for India’s customers, due to which the rates of iPhones can also be reduced in India. Experts say that Tata Group wants to further strengthen its technology sector and use Taiwanese companies’ expertise to manufacture, assemble and supply products.

The details of the deal, including the structure and shareholding, are yet to be finalized, according to a Bloomberg report. In addition, the idea is that Tata may buy shares in Wistron’s Indian operations or set up a new assembly facility by the parties involved, or both, the report said. The Cupertino tech giant has placed its trust in India since it began assembling apple products in 2017 along with Taiwanese companies Wistron and Foxconn, aiming to create domestic manufacturing in India.

Bloomberg reached out to Apple, Tata and Wistron for their statements on the matter but Apple & Tata did not respond while Wistron declined to comment on this contract.

Apple is exploring options to manufacture its iPhones outside China as their production was reduced due to covid, so they are gradually reducing their dependence on China to manufacture and ship their latest iPhone models around the world, If this deal is done then the iPhone can be made by the Tata group.
